Ronaldo sends PSG parking. Boy bye!

March 08, 2018

PSG’s big dream and high hope of finally winning UEFA Champions League trophy was dashed in the return leg of the round 16 clash against Real Madrid.
When the draws were made late last year, PSG looked most likely to cross the hurdle to the Quarter finals, and all media tipped the big spending Club to dust out Zidane’s team who were then out of form. But, like they say, “football is not played on Papers”.
The summer additions of Kylian Mbappe from Monaco and Dani Alves from Juventus suggested a strengthened challenge, but most of all it was the stunning signing of Barcelona ace Neymar for a world record fee of €222 million.

PSG’s attack bought for upwards of €250m, and could only get a Goal at Parc des Princes in front of their hungry fans. Though, Neymar is absent due to injury, but the presence of Cavanni, Di Maria and Mbappe should have done more.
It was a Ronaldo’s day yet again, breaking another record (He became the first footballer who scored highest goals in Champion league) that silenced the Paris fans with a clinical header. Cristiano Ronaldo in the Champions League for Real Madrid: Games: 96 Goals: 102
Edinson Cavani equalised later in the game, almost by accident as the ball hit his leg and went in, but by then Emery's men were playing with 10 after Marco Verratti's red card and a comeback was just not on the cards.

"We didn't do anything we should have done tonight," PSG chairman Nasser Al-Khelaifi admitted after the game.
"We don't want to over react tonight, we will talk to the players. We need to be calm and relax and we will think at what we have to do next."
"We still believe in our project," Al-Khelaifi said. "This is not the time to make changes. We have time to think about what we need to change, we must be calm.
"We are happy with our investments. We believe in our players, Neymar and Mbappe are the future of the club."

Unai Emery now look certain to be replaced. The quality of the squad has undoubtedly improved, yet they are far from where they want to be.
